An Introduction

I realized at some point that I kept telling the same stories over and over again when I would talk to younger newer software developers or security folks. So rather than continuing to just tell those stories, it seemed worthwhile to set some of them down in writing. By writing them down, I can share them with a broader audience in the hopes that they might be useful to other folks. And as a side benefit I get to practice some writing skills.

None of the stories are revolutionary but I do hope that they might be a bit entertaining and a bit educational, in the spirit of Joel Spolsky's blog "Joel on Software" or Raymond Chen's "Old New Thing." Both of them set a high bar for how readable and entertaining a good tech blog can be.

The other motivation to put pen to paper is that I occasionally get the question about what it's like to 'be a woman in tech'. It's like water to me, so as the fish in that water, I never quite know how to answer that question. But by sharing some of my experiences, I can at least share what this water I swim in feels like to me as a woman in tech.
